Access Statement for Lattice Lodge Guest House

Introduction

Lattice Lodge Guest House is an elegant Edwardian building which has retained many of its original features. We offer bed and breakfast accommodation and have eleven spacious guest bedrooms on two floors. We have a range of ground floor rooms, including an en-suite twin room which is purpose built for wheelchair users.

Pre-Arrival

  • We can communicate with you by phone, email and post. We will provide a mobile number for communication by text if required.
  • We are able to book wheelchair accessible taxis. Please advise us as early as possible if required.
  • It is only a one minute walk to nearest bus stop. All buses in town are low floor vehicles.
  • The Shopmobility outlet is in the Buttermarket shopping centre, on its upper car park level.
  • The town centre is a twenty minute walk, five minute drive or bus journey.
  • We have leaflets detailing locations of disabled parking bays and Radar toilets.
  • For your safety and convenience, guests who require assistance with their mobility will need to be accompanied.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • We have a tarmac car park at the front of the guest house. There are 11 clearly marked bays, two of which are only 3m away from the front door.
  • There are no barriers, speed bumps, kerbs or other obstacles in the car park.
  • You can access your vehicle from the rear, once parked.
  • If you need assistance from the car park, phone us on the number displayed on the sign by the front wall.
  • We can collect your luggage from the car for you.
  • The route to the front door is flat and unobstructed. From the furthest point in the car park it is only a 10m walk. The entrance is on the right hand side of the house.
  • At night the car park is lit by the street light and the porch is well lit by two lamps.
  • There is a small step up at the front door. We will place a short ramp there for the duration of your stay, if required.
  • There is a doorbell at the front door. You will be given a key for this door on check-in and will then be able to come and go as you please.
  • Service dogs are welcome. We can provide food and drink bowls, which will need to be placed in your bedroom.

Main Entrance, Reception & Ticketing Area

  • We have an outward opening door on our storm porch. This door has no lock on it. There is just a draught excluder strip at floor level.
  • Once over the step/ramp at the front door, the entire ground floor is flat, with no steps, ramps, etc. The hallway is carpeted.
  • Check-in is usually conducted in the hallway, but we can move this to the dining room or your bedroom, as appropriate.
  • Lighting throughout the house is as you would expect in a normal domestic property, with central and wall lights. The main lights are turned out at 10pm, but small lamps are left on throughout the night so that you can make your way around the if needed.
  • Additional sets of keys are available upon request.
  • A tour of the house is offered to all of our guests, we will tailor it to meet your individual needs.
  • There is minimal signage in the house as it would spoil the homely atmosphere of the property.

Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors

  • As this is an Edwardian property, there are no lifts or escalators. Access to the first floor is up 17 carpeted steps, there is a handrail on one side of the stairway. The steps are 91cm (3') wide and 25cm (10') deep.
  • Once on the first floor, it is completely level. Six guest bedrooms are on this floor.
  • All of the halls, stairs and landings have fitted carpets. There are no loose rugs anywhere. To access the guest lounge, garden and two of the ground floor bedrooms, it is necessary to go past the kitchen, which has a hard floor.
  • The internal doors in the front part of the house are 78cm (31) wide, those at the back are 71cm (28) wide. There is a set of double doors which you go through to access the wheelchair accessible bedroom, these are 1.3m (51) wide when both open. The doors in the public areas are solid wood fire doors and are held open by Dorguards. Dorguards release the doors when the fire alarm sounds, but they can be opened and closed manually.
  • The narrowest part of the main hallway is 1.3m (51') wide. It is only 4.3 (14') long. The narrowest part of the corridor at the back of the house (which takes you to the lounge) is 81cm (32”) wide. This is 6m (19'8) long.
  • The payphone is by the dining room. It is a standard payphone with raised buttons - the 5 button has a bump - and two volumes. It is positioned quite high, so you would need to perch on a stool or stand . If this is not possible for you, you can use our landline for short local or national calls.

Guest Lounge

  • The guest lounge is a conservatory at the back of the house. It is carpeted, level and has several different types of lighting.
  • It has space for 6 people to sit, as well as space for someone in a wheelchair.

Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Bar area, Take Away & Cafe

  • Our 17-seater, no-smoking dining room is situated on the ground floor, centrally positioned between the ground floor bedrooms. It is carpeted and is lit by central and wall lights.
  • The chairs do not have arms, the tables have central support columns, all are movable. We can reserve a table for you, if necessary.
  • We can produce the menu in a larger font size, if required. Although as its only a breakfast menu it would be quite easy to tell you what's on offer.
  • We are happy to cater for different dietary needs. Please tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements when you make your reservation.
  • There's a mixture of self-service and table service. All your food can be brought to your table if required.

Laundry

  • We do not have an in-house laundry facility. There are two laundrettes, both offering service washes within walking distance of the guest house.

Bedrooms

  • We have one bedroom which is suitable for a wheelchair user. It is a ground floor twin room, with plenty of space to manoeuvre around the furniture.
  • The room is on the ground floor. To access it, you go from the main hallway, across the dining room and through double doors. It is a short journey from the front door.
  • Each room has a complimentary refreshment tray, with a kettle, tea and coffee.
  • We use feather duvets and pillows as standard. We do have anti-allergy bedding if required.
  • We don't allow pets other than service dogs. We have a black cat called Missy, who mainly stays in our private rooms, but please be aware of this if you do have an allergy to cat hair.

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite]

  • All rooms are en-suite and there are no public bathrooms or WCs.
  • In the wheelchair accessible room, the en-suite has a large shower cubicle with a fixed, fold down seat and a grab rail. The floor in the en-suite is completely flat and the wide door means that it can be easily accessed by a wheelchair.
  • There is another ground floor bedroom with a similar wet room. It is not as big, so is not suitable for someone with very limited mobility.
  • All other en-suites have a shower tray and are not suitable for people with limited mobility.

Grounds and Gardens

  • We have a small, landscaped garden at the rear of the house. It is on three levels. The middle level, which has a small, flat lawn, can be accessed by wheelchair user, with help, via the conservatory. There are patio chairs and a table on this level, too.

Additional Information

  • Evacuation procedures are displayed in your room and will be explained to you on check-in. We do not have an alarm system for people who are hard of hearing. Therefore, for our guests' safety, those who are hard of hearing will need to be accompanied by a hearing companion.
  • Mosaic has basic knowledge of BSL.
  • It is against the law to smoke in Lattice Lodge.
  • We can store medication in our fridge.
  • It is just the two of us running Lattice Lodge and we are not always available to help, ie we might go shopping in the afternoon, so if you feel you'll need assistance at different times during the day, you'll need to be accompanied.
